Greenwood Friends School

On Saturday, the 13th of June, fifty people from 31 years of Greenwood Friends School and Community Friends School gathered for a reunion -- students, family members, and faculty.  The event took place following a suggestion by Johanna Gerig, a graduate of the 8th grade class of 1999, who contacted the school in May asking about a tenth reunion for her class.  We invited the class of '99 -- and everyone else, too. Many of those attending had not seen Greenwood since the new wing opened in 2004 -- and many had not seen each other since they came to school together.  Teachers and students caught up on each other's lives and shared memories of their Greenwood experiences.  Gathered in the library, attendees heard from founding director Irene McHenry, who spoke about the resourcefulness, determination, and inspiration that the school's founders had -- shared by every succeeding generation in the school community.  Along with enjoying ice cream (homemade by a Greenwood Valley neighbor), reunion-goers had the opportunity to ride Jeannette, Greenwood's fire engine mascot.

Faculty and staff members attending included founders Mary Lou Wagner and Marlin Wagner (the school's "official photographer"), Frank Titman, Judith Savage, Susan Rockwood, Marilyn Preisz Frear, Mary Osborne, Irene McHenry, Faith Long, Jolene Landis, Jamie Huntley, Judy Hunchar, Oren Helbok, Taci Deppen, and, about to start her 31st year at GFS, Shirley Broadt.
