For Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, Greenwood Friends School students engaged in a variety of service learning projects. The kindergarten-through-second-grade Primary Team made fleece blankets for the Animal Resource Center in Bloomsburg. Students learned to sew the edges of the blankets with blunt embroidery needles. Their efforts will continue throughout the year collecting donations for the center. The shelter will also be bringing animals to the school for visits. The third-through-fifth-grade Intermediate Team had a "bake and freeze," making lasagnas, casseroles, and other meals for the Ronald McDonald House in Bloomsburg. The students also knitted sections of blankets for the Warm Up America program. Intermediates ended the day with a "Web Quest," using the Internet to research and learn about Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School students divided into three groups. One group helped at Union County Community Childcare, another group at the Center for Non-Violent Living, and the third group at Riverwoods. After the morning activities, all middle schoolers joined the Community Alliance for Respect and Equality (C.A.R.E.) group in Lewisburg for activities inspired by Martin Luther King. |
