Students gathered for Meeting for Worship at the Millville Friends Meetinghouse on Monday, March 17th, to remember C. Renee Tucker and her place in our lives and in our hearts. Renee died on Sunday, March 16th, at Geisinger Medical Center. Joined by faculty and staff and many friends of the school, the children shared their own memories of Renee and heard from adults who have known Renee during the thirteen years she brought her spirit, energy, passionate love of teaching, and bottomless love of children to our school community.

Robert Lentz, the Interim Head of Greenwood Friends School, received Bloomsburg University’s Humanitarian Award for community service at the annual Martin Luther King, Jr., banquet on February 2. Since moving to our area nine years ago, Bob has served as a member of Bloomsburg’s Task Force for Racial Equity, and the Task Force submitted Bob’s name for consideration for the award.
Bob came to Central Pennsylvania after retiring as a high school principal in suburban Detroit, where he participated actively in efforts in that metropolitan area to foster interracial trust and understanding, both in schools and in the community at large.

What do these people have in common: An agricultural group in Peru; a cobbler in Togo; a flower seller in Samoa; and a pig farmer in Cambodia? They’ve each convinced our Middle School students to loan them $25!
Middle School students are learning about the power of microfinancing by making small loans to entrepreneurs in the developing world. These entrepreneurs are using their loans to finance business plans that help lift them out of poverty.

A stunning view of moon craters half in shadow, and a display of Jupiter with two of its moons clearly visible, were among the "stars" out at Greenwood for our first ever "Starry Starry Night." Nearly
a hundred people came to use hand-held telescopes and other astronomy
equipment provided through a grant from The Merck Foundation. "Ooohs"
and "aaahs" from adults and children studded the warm, nearly cloudless
evening.

Volleyball, music and laughter, old friends and new friends, exploring our labyrinth, and of course food, as only our school community does it, were all to be found at this year's back-to-school community picnic. Students, families, teachers, staff, friends, and supporters of Greenwood gathered on Sunday, 9 Sept., to celebrate the beginning of the school year.
