Greenwood Friends School is seeking candidates for the Director of Academics & Lead Teacher position for the 2025-26 school year (beginning 7/1/25). This is a full-time, Salaried, 12-month position that reports directly to the Board of Trustees. This position has an annual salary of $60,000, plus benefits.
The Director of Academics & Lead Teacher is responsible for modeling, articulating, and incorporating the GFS Mission, Vision, Values, as well as the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice statement into the operations of Greenwood Friends School. This position is responsible for implementing the GFS Strategic Plan (2024) in collaboration with the Board of Trustees and the Director of Administration and Business.
This Director of Academics & Lead Teacher oversees the academic operations of the school, including supervision of teachers, instruction, curriculum, and student life.
The Director of Academics & Lead Teacher is an experienced teacher who supervises the teaching staff and has primary responsibility for part time teaching. The teaching load is estimated at 10-30% per week. The time dedicated to teaching is negotiable with the board and changeable over time.
This position is a member of the Quaker Life and Personnel committees and is an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees.
The Director of Academics is expected to work collaboratively and cooperatively with the Director of Administration to ensure that GFS functions in a manner that is consistent with Quaker testimonies.
The Director of Academics is expected to communicate with and meet with the Director of Administration at least weekly to ensure the smooth operation of the school. The Director of Academics is expected to communicate and meet regularly with the clerk or a designated member of the Board of Trustees and report to the entire board monthly.

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, with strong preference given to individuals in credentialing and/or advanced degree programs in education. In addition, they must demonstrate proficiency with computers, MS Office Suite, Google Docs, the internet, email, QuickBooks, ClassDojo, and marketing tools such as Constant Contact.
Candidates must also have classroom teaching experience in a Pre-K – 8 classroom, possess excellent communication skills, and be professional in both appearance and conduct. We are seeking an individual who has a high interest in collaborating with colleagues, and prefer someone with experience working in, or attending, an independent school. Familiarity with and appreciation for Quaker principles and/or a willingness to learn those guiding values is a plus. Successful candidates will furnish clearances related to child abuse & criminal background, have or quickly obtain a current First Aid certification and must complete the Mandated Reporter Training.

Substitute Teachers (Current Opening)
In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, the substitute teacher is responsible for the continuation of all learning activities in the classroom. A spirit of cooperation, sharing, kindness and respect is expected at all levels. This individual must effectively implement instructional plans left by the teacher, communicate clearly with students and establish a positive climate, and maintain classroom discipline. Bachelor’s degree preferred and previous experience in a classroom setting required. This is an “on-call” position that yields a per-diem wage of $100.
